It is a research-based project
exploring effective policies
towards implementation
of unconventional types of gardening*
in urban areas and analysing
positive case studies
in Germany
Vertical green and green roofs did not have
a widespread occurrence
in Russia because
of the absence of legal policies, a lack
of knowledge and limited resources
The urban heat island [UHI] effect, whereby inner urban areas are hotter than
the surrounding rural areas,
is the challenge that Moscow is facing
The decrease of green territories and the prevalence of artificial materials lead
to the negative impact
on environment, human health and quality
of urban life and leads
to a necessity of new ways
of greenery

Germany has always been the leading country in green roofing and green facades technology. The German policy model applied to the development of this technology was
a key factor in the successful implementation
of unconventional greenery

Current Situation
CONTEXT
THE PURPOSE
OF THE
is to analyze
and to transfer expertise
from Germany
to the Russian context
in order to mitigate UHI
in Moscow and adapt it
to other Russian cities
